            There is a famous dialogue from the 1989 film, 'Maine Pyar Kiya' which says, "Ek ladka aur ek ladki kabhi dost nahi hote". But now, we are in 2021 and this dialogue is a lie in some cases, but in some cases this is the truth. We have seen many  bollywood movies with a plot where, at first, the main characters, that is, the guy and the girl are each other's best friends and later, one or both of them fall in love with each other. During the phase when they are each other's best friends, they obviously support each other, understand each other like no one else would, be always there for each other and be each other's guiding light in the dark and difficult times. Slowly and gradually, this care and affection blossoms into love and they don't even realize it unless and until a tragic twist hits their story. Having best friends of the opposite gender is a beautiful thing in itself where you support each other, find solutions to problems using different perspectives and sometimes even be each other's wingman or wingwoman, or if you are lucky enough, you find your soulmate in your best friend itself. But only some love stories are lucky enough to have a happy ending, because some end with the guy and the girl being complete strangers, while in some cases, the bond just doesn't remain the same as before. But, but, falling in love with your best friend must be indeed the best feeling ever. 1) Wake Up Sid (2009):

This movie gave us complete best friend goals and also left us with a desire to give a makeover to our own house along with our friends. Aisha and Siddharth become friends at a party and slowly start spending time with each other due to one reason or another. Their friendship grows with time and Aisha helps Siddharth to know the meaning of life and finally the free-spirited Siddharth becomes mature and aware of his life's responsibilities. The friendship between Aisha and Siddharth is so heart melting and has also given us other dreams like sitting on the marine drive with a stranger and gossiping about life, enjoying the little things like 'Tum, main aur do cup chai' and also the roof top meets. 

2) Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (2008):

Can someone please bring back movies like these? The ultimate best friends to lovers vaali love story that has our heart. Jay and Aditi are two best friends completely opposite to each other yet always togethet. People around them see them as something more than just best friends but they never see each other in that light. They try to set up each other with different people thinking that their partners will have no problem with their friendship, but this eventually leads to complications in their lives and their bond with each other. They see their friendship slipping away, it's only then when they realize their love for each other. Jay and Aditi wow us with their friendship and love and make us feel like 'humein kab koi aisa milega' for whom we will sing the song 'Tera mujhse hai pehle ka naata koi, yunhi nahi dil lubhaata koi, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na'. Uff! 

3) Jab We Met (2007):

Aditya Kashyap is a complete stranger to Geet, a crazy and talkative girl who he meets on a train. After Geet misses her train for the second time, Aditya gets stuck with her and takes up the responsibility to leave her home safely. On the way, they both become good friends and Geet helps Aditya to understand the true meaning of life. Aditya joins in her craziness but also helps her in everything including eloping from her house. Even in her difficult times, he leaves everything behind to go and fetch her and help her win her love and have a happy life. Geet sees Aditya as his good friend who is always there for her until she realizes that no one can be as perfect as Aditya for her and Aditya on the other hand is already hopelessly in love with her. There had been many posts on Instagram these days which say, 'Girls want only one thing and that's Aditya from Jab We Met' and that's true, why wouldn't anyone want to have a guy best friend and lover like Aditya Kashyap? 

4) Hasee Toh Phasee (2014):

Nikhil and Meeta are probably the most underrated couple from a Bollywood movie. Meeta is an eccentric yet smart girl who is Nikhil's girlfriend Karishma's sister. She ran away against her family's will for her career and is back at her house during Karishma and Nikhil's wedding. Karishma doesn't allow her to stay at home and arranges a filthy place for her stay. But when Nikhil comes to know about this he takes Meeta to his house for stay. Later when he learns that Meeta is Karishma's sister and how things have gone sour between Meeta and her family, he supports her and helps her through her difficult times. Girls after seeing Nikhil's gentleman attitude towards the quirky Meeta will search for someone like Nikhil to be their best friend. Nikhil and Meeta also have this cute best friends stage but in the end, 'Pyaar toh hona hi tha'. 

5) Dostana (2008):

The movie Dostana has the story where yes, the guys do fall in love with their girl best friend but never get the girl. Sam and Kunal fall in love with their roommate and their very good friend Neha, but Neha falls in love with someone else. Sam and Kunal had resorted to a lie of being a gay couple to get an apartment where they live with Neha but this lie stops them from winning over Neha. With time, Neha, Kunal and Sam's bond gets stronger but when Neha finds out the truth, she asks Sam and Kunal to leave her house. But best friends are best friends, both Sam and Kunal do a really unexpected thing for Neha in the end so that she can get back her love. Here we have the girl having not one but two guy best friends and their story ends up in 'we're just friends' itself.

6) Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (2012):

Riana and Rahul get completely drunk one night and accidentally marry each other. Riana is later thrown out by her landlord and Rahul helps her by giving her shelter at his home until the annulment of their marriage. During the time they spend with each other Riana changes the inelegant Rahul Kapoor and makes him rather smart and bold. It is only because of Riana that Rahul is able to bring a complete change into his dull life and become confident and content in life. They both obviously become best friends but Rahul falls for Riana. When he tries to express his feelings, Riana doesn't reciprocate his feelings and convinces him to stay best friends just as they are because she likes him alot as a human being and can't afford to lose him due to a relationship and this is yet another story which ends up with the girl and the boy being best friends. 

                So, these were some of the movies with the concept of a girl and a boy being best friends. Some of the stories end up with love and some do not end that way. But one way or another, these movies always prove to be the cutest and the chemistry between the best friends makes us want to have a best friend from the opposite gender.
